How to upgrade
To upgrade, use the same method you used to install the server — the installer or the portable version.
Check your eligibility
If you have a professional license, verify that it covers the version you wish to install on the Rebex account page. Free licenses are always valid for the latest version.
Upgrade using the installer
Using the .exe installer is the most straightforward way to update your server, as it automatically handles file updates and service registration.
- The installer automatically backs up your configuration to a timestamped subdirectory under
<config-directory>/backups/. For extra safety, create your own backup of the configuration folder beforehand (%PROGRAMDATA%\Rebex\BuruSftp, typicallyC:\ProgramData\Rebex\BuruSftp). - Download the latest installer, or choose a specific older version from the archive. Make sure to choose the same architecture as your existing installation.
- Run the installer. It will update the application files and refresh the services.
If you are upgrading from version 1.x, the installer will reinstall the services. You will be prompted to re-enter your service user credentials during this process.
